Creative Launches Zen, A New Mobile Phone Like MP3 Player

Creative Launches Zen, A New Mobile Phone Like MP3 Player

Creative has been particularly active lately with the Zen Family launching the Zen Krystal and the Zen X-Fi this month alone. They've added yet another one called the Zen Mozaic which has tiled keypads and a built-in speaker (ed: so much so for tranquility on public transport).

The MP3 player comes with a 1.8-inch TFT screen, an FM radio as well as an array of colours; what differentiates it from other MP3 player is its distinctive form as it has the same format as a mobile phone, complete with the keys.

Now would that mean that Creative Labs is coming up with a range of cheap music mobile phone like the Sony Walkman Range? Why not?

Creative claims that the Mozaic can play up to 32 hours worth of music and comes in 2GBm 4GB, 8GB and 16GB models, the latter coming later this year.

The competitor to the iPod nano also comes with a few tricks up its sleeve like the ability to play video movies using the bundled software to transcode any videos.

Creative Centrale Application, the equivalent of Apple's iTunes media manager, can also organise and tag music intelligently.

The MP3 player will cost anything from £50 to £80 for the 8GB model which makes it poor value (at suggested retail prices) especially when compared to the Creative Zen 16GB which costs only £94.99 and comes with a large 2.5-inch screen.
